The Red Wings were founded in 1926, but were known then as the Detroit Cougars. In 1930, their name changed briefly to the Detroit Falcons, until they finally settled on Detroit Red Wings in 1932.

Their wins ran dry between the mid-50’s until the mid-90’s. They had a number of Division Championships in the 80’s, but it didn’t go further than that until they won a Stanley Cup in 1996-97.
